Cypriot football: Ultimately, Augeas's stables were not cleaned

The situation in Cypriot football remains deeply problematic regarding corruption and match-fixing allegations. Despite the establishment of the Ethics and Sports Protection Committee in 2017, no convictions have been secured to date. Dozens of "red files" concerning suspicious betting activities have been submitted without leading to legal consequences. Former President Nicos Anastasiades had previously denounced corruption within football and the Cyprus Football Association. After nine years of efforts, the systemic issues plaguing the sport appear to remain unresolved. The symbolic "Augean stables" of the athletic world have yet to be purged of their deep-seated corruption.
